How to Get Rid of White Tongue

by

How to Get Rid of White Tongue

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

A white tongue is something that nobody wants to have. Not only does a coated tongue look abnormal, but if it is left untreated, it's a strong indication of bad breath. People who have the condition known as geographic tongue are definitely more likely to experience a white tongue. Geographic tongue simply means a tongue that has lots of grooves and fissures in it, and these grooves and fissures make an excellent breeding ground for the anaerobic bacteria that cause bad breath and a white tongue. The way around this problem is simply making sure that your tongue is kept as clean as possible. However, not all tongue cleaning is created equal....
Tongue cleaning (or tongue scraping) is a process that the majority of people in the United States don't do on a daily basis. It's one of the most important steps you can take to keep your breath clean and fresh!
It's not difficult to do, and it's not even that time consuming. That extra minute or two per day can reap huge rewards in preventing bad breath, helping to prevent white tongue and returning it to its normal color.

Steps

  1. Starting at the very base of your tongue, place the tongue cleaner flush against your tongue's surface and make slow sweeping strokes from back-to-front. Start at either side (left or right) and work your way to the other. Depending on the tongue cleaner you are using, you might need to make 3-4 different 'swaths' across your tongue.
  2. Apply oxygenating toothpaste. Once the surface debris from your tongue has been removed, apply a small bead of oxygenating toothpaste to the head of your tongue cleaner.
  3. Gently coat the surface of your tongue (as far back as possible without gagging) with the toothpaste. This allows it to penetrate below the surface of your tongue to neutralize those sulfur-producing anaerobic bacteria! There are more bacteria in the rear of your tongue than in the front.
  4. Once your tongue is coated, allow the toothpaste to stay on the surface of your tongue as long as you can, up to 90 seconds is ideal. If you begin to cough, or your gag reflex kicks in, it's alright to spit it out whenever you need to.
    • Ideally, it's best to leave the toothpaste on the surface of your tongue, while you brush your teeth normally.

Tips

  • A white tongue may be a symptom of thrush.
  • Tongue cleaning alone does not prevent bad breath
  • Tongue cleaning does not kill the bacteria that cause bad breath that are breeding below the surface of a geographic tongue. It simply removes the gunk on the surface of your tongue (mucus and food debris) which are a food source for the anaerobic bacteria. In order to get rid of those anaerobic bacteria (which are responsible for white tongue), you must use an oxygenating toothpaste which can penetrate beneath your tongues surface.

Warnings

  • It's not necessary to scrape hard! In general, pressing harder does not remove more bacteria. You simply need to press hard enough so that the tongue cleaner contacts your tongue, flush across the cleaning surface. Try not to leave any gaps.

Things You'll Need

  • It's not necessary to use one of those complex, expensive gizmos to successfully clean your tongue
  • All you need is a fairly rigid instrument that you can easily make flush with the largest amount possible of your tongue's surface area. The electronic tongue cleaners you see can be helpful if you have arthritis, difficulty with coordination, or in general have a tough time performing the actions listed below.

Dhobi Ghat with out an interval

by
Dhobi Ghat”, directed by Aamir's wife Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is one of the highly anticipated films of the year. Releasing Friday, the movie stars Aamir and one-film old Prateik Babbar, apart from new talent like Kriti Malhotra and Monica Dogra.
It is just 95-minute long, and therefore Aamir Khan’s forthcoming film “Dhobi Ghat” will be screened across the country without any interval. Apparently the implementation of the no-intermission clause for “Dhobi Ghat” will be closely monitored across the country. Errant theatres sneaking in samosa space into “Dhobi Ghat” would be guilty of a breach of contract.
Aamir’s close friend filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who has been championing the cause of the abolition of the ritual, sees this as a big breakthrough in the process of guarding the creative sanctity of our films.
“Intervals are an unnatural brake applied in the middle of a film to sell samosas. There is no first-half and second-half in a film. This is an artificial division created purely to generate revenues through food sales,” said Mehra.Indian actor Rahul Bose, known for his distinct choice of roles, can’t stop praising Kiran Rao’s directorial debut “Dhobi Ghat” and says the movie provides a world-class feel.

How to Avoid Stress on the Internet

by

How to Avoid Stress on the Internet

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Believe it or not, using the Internet can be a major source of stress for some people. This article will offer some tips of relieving your web stress for good.;

Steps

  1. Don't post inflammatory comments in a thread/forum if someone else does it. Report it to moderators immediately. They are in the wrong, not you.
  2. Never log in from college or work. You can or may be traceable. Workplaces tend to have filtering/logging systems, and in some cases you can actually block objectionable sites via the HOSTS file. However, on the upside, logging systems do get deleted after a period of time.
  3. Don't get into complex, drawn-out arguments over an Internet site. Doing this can cause colleges to investigate, and possible legal threats from site owners. In one example, a British 16-year-old was banned from a forum who threatened legal action against him simply for posting nonsensical, if inoffensive information, and threatened to contact his ISP, but it was later withdrawn when it was revealed he had mental issues. This vignette reveals the dangers that can happen.
  4. Never use your real personal information. The only exception is when buying items with a credit card. Always use a pseudonym (e.g. if your name is Fred John Jones, then maybe John Jones as a pseudonym etc.)
  5. Accept that a forum is simply something to avoid getting worked up over. Many will disappear over time, despite the Internet supposedly keeping things for posterity.
  6. Don't use "fake mail" services". Aside from causing viruses/malware, they also can cause upset and harm and is possibly an unintentional form of bullying.
  7. Never save anything obscene or pornographic to your work or college PC.

Tips

  • Never use keyloggers - computers are shared in many cases.
  • Use the Internet for research, rather than pleasure when in workplace or college situations. In one example, a 16-year-old British boy was investigated by his college over misuse of the Internet and message boards and chat room sites. He was not expelled from college, but banned from the computers for a prolonged period of time without supervision. However, the individual did later reform, but his motivation for doing it was due to poor social skills rather than malice. It was not intentional, rather more due to lack of social skills, but this vignette attests to how a misunderstanding can have far-reaching consequences.

Warnings

  • Keylogging software should not be used at all by employers. These tend to cause paranoia amongst individuals.
  • Internet logs can and should be disposed of regularly, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2003 (if you are British).

How to Get Free Website Templates

by

How to Get Free Website Templates

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Designing and building a website is often a task left to designers, programmers and high priced software systems. In this article we will show you that some of the best things on the web are truly free.

Steps

  1. Determine Your Niche. This is usually the easiest part of starting the website template search process. If your business is Accounting, you might choose a business template. If you are an artist, then maybe an artist's template. Whatever you decide, it's best to begin right here.
  2. Choose a Colour Scheme. Choosing your colour scheme is important as it will help brand your design to your hobby, product or service. If you are in health care, you might want to choose green as it is a "healthy" colour. Finding a good colour chart will certainly help and there are plenty online. If you have a logo for your business or your niche, what are the colours? It's best to stay within your colour scheme to make the site more palatable and congruent with your design.
  3. Consider The Pages You Want To Build. We know there will be one main page, usually titled "Home" or "Main". But there are other pages that you may need such as, "About Us", "Who We Are", "Our Products" and "Contact Us". Writing down the names of these pages will help in your choice of template as some only include a single page while other may include a number of inner pages.
  4. Think about what 'Your Copy' will be. Also known as "text"; your copy is what you have written about each page. Whether it's "About Us" or even a "Contact Us" page - each page needs its own "copy" to stand apart from the other pages. This will tie in to your Search Engine Optimization (SEO - more about this further down) of each page to aid search engines in locating your work to display for their users.
  5. Start searching. You have all of your information ready and can now search for the perfect template... but what search terms do you use? A good suggestion would be "free web template". Or, if your business was accounting, you would search for "free business templates" or "free accounting template". Keeping the search to no more than three words is preferable. The search engine you use will bring up the best links for your search term - but lets not forget there are a few more pages - it's best to inspect them all. Some new websites that offer great new templates might not be on page one, so it's best to do some due diligence to find great work. As well, some of the sites that come up on the first page typically have older designs on them. In our example, we'll visit WebTemplex.com[1] for free websites.
  6. Use the new design. You have now found your design and have downloaded it to your computer. A suggestion would be to create a new folder to store the site in and to work from. You would hate to have the website and all the files sitting in your documents folder scattered around with other files. It's best to keep everything together. Once you have the site file downloaded it will probably be in a zip file. A zip file contains all of the documents, images and code all compressed in a tidy file. You will need an unzip utility such as Jzip or Winzip to "unzip" the file and extract the files to your new folder.
  7. Unzip the Files. Quite simply you will double click on the file and the appropriate unzip software will load. This is based on your decision of unzip utility. It will open and show you the files it has within it. You can click on any number of files and drag them to your designated folder. They will instantly uncompress once placed. Remember to save this zip file in a safe place in case you need to get an image or other file from it.
  8. Start building the site. Files Unzipped - Now Let's Build - for some, this scares people. You can't really hurt or "mess up" a website. In fact, everything you do only enhances it from this point. The files you will be editing will normally have the following file extensions: .html, .htm, .php, .shtml. For simpler sake, let's believe you are using an .html file. You will need something to edit the files with. By editing we mean that you will be entering your "copy", phone numbers, address - etc - on to the page. You can use Windows Notepad to edit the file and it really does a simple job - although the backend may look scary... if you read through the lines while looking at an image of the site you can start to get a feel for what each line means. Especially when you see text placement. There are other commercial HTML Editors on the market and they all do pretty much the same job as Notepad, just a tad more expensive.
  9. Edit Your Pages. As stated in Step 8 above, you'll open the file in Notepad by first starting the Notepad programme. You'll then click on "File", and then "Open" and browse for the first file to edit. The very first file you will edit will be index.html. So, with the file open in Notepad, you will take your copy, or other info and place it into the blocks provided or where other text resides. The other text on a template site may seem like a strange language, "lorem ipsum..." this is simply garble language used on most templates. Finding the location of the spot to add your text, simply type in what you want it to say and save the file. You can always click on the .html file and your browser will open showing you what it looks like after you made any changes. If when you open your file it appears distorted, simply go back and undo the changes - this is a great learning experience!
  10. Do some Search Engine Optimization (SEO). While you are writing your copy into your files keep in mind that the copy must be different than the copy of the other pages. If all pages had the same copy on them, your site would not garner the attention it would normally get. Each page must stand alone like it was its own website. You'll also use what are called "Keywords" within your writing to describe the page as it matches the text. For instance, this page could use the keywords, "website template". If your business was accounting then you would certainly add in the keywords, "accounting", finances", "taxes" etc.
  11. Upload the files. Once you have all of the files the way you want them it's time to upload them to your host. This is often referred to as FTP'ing, or uploading. This is the process of taking all of the images and files and uploading them to your host. You will simply start your FTP programme and sign in to your web hosting account. Most FTP software allows you to transfer files much like transferring files in windows; where you select a file and drag and drop it into another folder. This new folder is actually the server where your domain is being hosted.
  12. Check Your Work - Once the website is uploaded, check each page to make sure you are not missing an image or that text is misspelled or missing.

Tips

  • Beware some template sites that force you to sign up or leave their site name in the footer of your website. Generally a free template does come with restrictions. Its best to read about any prior to use.
  • Also beware of any strange code you may see in the footer of most templates. Often-times the designer may encrypt the footer to place their signature (sig) link on it or, may have placed a link for malware. If you see a large block of "funny" looking code in the footer, email the designer and ask what it is prior to launching your website.

Things You'll Need

  • Unzip utility software like Jzip or Winzip
  • Windows Notepad or HTML Writer Software
  • FTP Software
  • Domain Name
  • Hosting Account
  • Active Internet account

Steps

  1. Buy a set of dumbbells at your local sporting goods store. If possible, purchase 2-3 sets of different weights. i.e., 10 lbs., 15 lbs., 20 lbs.
  2. Wear comfortable workout clothing and fitness shoes.
  3. Read and do the following exercises for a complete total body workout!
  4. Enjoy!
Exercises
  1. Squats: Starting position: Hold a weight in each hand, feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart, core tight, shoulder blades retracted, knees slightly bent. Squats may also be done using an exercise ball, along the wall as shown in the image. Motion: Slowly squat down until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Hold a beat and exhale as you return to starting position. Repeat 10-15 reps. Concentrate on feeling the muscles in the legs, hamstrings, butt and calves, contract and release throughout the entire movement.
  2. Bent over rows: Starting position: Hold a weight in each hand, feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart, core tight, shoulder blades retracted. Bend over until your back is flat and parallel to the floor. Bend the knees slightly to take strain off lower back, let arms hang comfortably down, arms should hang under your shoulders. Motion: Slowly lift the weights upward, keeping the elbows tight into the body, exhaling upon exertion. Palms facing forward. Feel the muscles in the back and lats contract. Hold a beat. Return to starting position. Repeat 10-15 reps. Keep your back flat, focus on letting your back do the work; not your traps.
  3. Push Ups: Starting position: Support your body with your arms and feet, arms slightly wider than shoulder width, your body in a plateau. Beginners put your knees on the floor. Keep the core muscles tight, head in a neutral position.Motion: Slowly lower your body down, bending at the elbows. Lower until your chest almost touches the floor. Exhale as you push up to starting position. Vary your hand positions to focus on different muscles: a close grip hand position puts more emphasis on the triceps.
  4. Overhead Tricep Extensions: Starting position: Stand with feet shoulder width apart, knees soft, core tight. With both hands, hold a weight directly overhead, elbows next to the ears. Motion: Slowly lower the weight behind your head, keeping the elbows next to the ear in a fixed position throughout the entire motion. The elbow acts as a pivot and does not move away from the side of your head. Repeat 10-15 reps. Keep abs tight, exhale as you press the weight upward upon exertion.
  5. Alternating Shoulder Presses:Starting position: Seated or standing. Hold a weight in each hand, at shoulder level, palms facing outward. Abs and core tight. Motion: Press the weight upward, straightening the arm, keeping a slight bend in the elbow at the top of the motion. Repeat other arm, 10-15 reps. each arm. How to Maintain Your Current Weight

How to Maintain Your Current Weight

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Weight management encompasses an array of ways to maintain a current body weight. Weight management is different from weight loss in that you're not trying to shed pounds (which can be challenging). You're just trying to not gain them. Here are some tips.

Steps

  1. Be mindful of your weight. It's your best feedback for how your lifestyle and diet are affecting your body. A big part of the reason people gain weight is because it happens gradually, and they don't notice until they've gained a significant amount. Balancing energy intake and energy expenditure is the basis of weight management throughout life.
  2. Keep in mind that fluctuations of 1-3 lbs are normal throughout the week or even during the day. Do not become obsessive about weighing yourself daily; this mindset can become counterproductive. Because of fluctuations in weight during the week, recommendations say weighing yourself once per week is sufficient to help maintain your weight.
  3. Eating a well balanced, healthy diet helps control caloric intake and maximizes vitamin and mineral intake. When your body has all the needed nutrients it requires, your energy levels stay high and you feel good about yourself. All these factors contribute to motivation to maintain a healthy diet, which in turn makes managing your current weight easier.
  4. Balancing physical activity is imperative to maintaining your current weight. The American Heart Association, American Dietetic Association, and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend 60 minutes of moderate level exercise, daily, to maintain weight with out weight loss. Keep in mind that all exercise is beneficial, even if you can not reach the 60 minute goal each day. Try breaking your exercise routine into portions i.e. a few 15 minute walks per day.
  5. Creating a positive outlook on healthy eating, exercise, and weight will make weight management more effective and enjoyable.

Tips

  • What is a healthy weight? For women, 100 pound for the first 5 feet of height, plus 5 pounds for each additional inch of height. For men, 106 pounds for the first 5 feet, plus 6 additional pounds for each inch of height.
  • Utilize the Food Guide Pyramid at www.mypryamid.gov to help plan healthy meals, track calories and exercise, and to find more advice on weight management.
  • Consider consulting a Registered Dietitian, the only credentialed nutrition experts, to help plan meals, identify problem areas in diet and exercise, and to provide novel approaches to weight management.

Warnings

  • Always consult your primary physician if you have special health conditions or considerations when starting an exercise program or changing your current diet.

Things You'll Need

  • Gym memberships are beginning to be covered by health insurance companies. Look into cost effective strategies to keep your enthusiasm for exercise alive.
  • Non-food reward systems are a great way to stay on track during lifestyle modifications. Allow yourself a little splurge for staying on track.
  • Look into farmers market options in your cities. Not only do farmers markets support local economy, you get exercise while shopping for natural foods.
