Karnataka: CM seeks report of malnutrition death case

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought the report of malnutrition death case in Bangalore and called it a serious matter. A five-year-old girl has allegedly died in Bangalore due to severe malnutrition. Her anganwadi records show that the girl, Meghala, was severely malnourished for months.

According to reports, Meghala's weight was just 12 kilos, far below the normal weight for a child her age. Meghala, daughter of a blind beggar, succumbed to pneumonia after her immunity levels dropped.

Rajnath's remark on English: TMC takes a swipe at BJP and Congress

BJP President Rajnath Singh's remarks on English language have turned into an all out political war on Twitter. After the Congress hit out at Rajnath for saying English language has hurt the country, now the Trinamool Congress has taken a swipe at both the parties. TMC leader Derek O'Brien tweeted, "One party only speaks the Queens's English,the other party does not want English.Whattay...(sic)"

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor said English language is an asset. "The fact is that English has been a great advantage for us during our economic expansion in the last 20 years. The fact that we have knowledgeable, educated, English speaking young people, has been a huge asset enhancing the economic growth, trade, outsourcing," Tharoor said.

Bihar mid day meal tragedy: Arrest the school principal, say locals

Chhapra: Four days after 23 school children died after eating their mid day meal in Bihar's Chhapra, there have been no arrests yet. The question being asked now is as to who really is to be blamed for this tragedy. Locals in Chhapra hold the absconding school principal, Meena Devi, responsible as pressure mounts on the Nitish Kumar government to arrest Meena Devi.

The minute the incident happened, the entire family of Meena Devi fled, leaving behind her house at the mercy of villagers and onlookers. Locals of Chhapra have been thronging her abandoned house, hurling abuses at the empty walls.

They believe no one else but Meena Devi is responsible. "Had she been here, the locals would have burnt her alive," said one of the locals.


The anger is not completely unfounded. Eyewitnesses say that the cook who made the fatal meal pointed out there was something wrong with the oil supplied. But Meena Devi forced her to use the oil and reportedly also forced the children to eat the food.

An inquiry by the Chhapra Commissioner has also blamed the Principal. The fact that she absconded is not helping her case.

"She is the one responsible for this. Had she not been guilty, she would have come out," said another local, Yogi Rai.

The preliminary blood test of the victims show they were poisoned. But whether it was a case of negligence or intentional is what the locals want answers to. "People will naturally blame her since she is the one who is responsible," Rai said.

It is the biggest tragedy in Bihar in the recent times and answers will be forthcoming only if Meena Devi clears the air. Until then for the villagers in Dharmasati, she remains the villain. 

Mid day meal tragedy: Lalu asks Nitish to quit, says his govt is a failure

As the political blame game over the Bihar mid day meal tragedy continues, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad has called the Bihar government a failure and has asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to resign. He also rubbished the Bihar government's claim that there was a political conspiracy behind the incident. "It is a made up conspiracy by the government only," the RJD chief said while speaking to CNN-IBN National Affairs Editor Bhupendra Chaubey.

The government will ask for a review of the Supreme Court order quashing the common medical entrance test. Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the court should have provided an alternative.

There will be no masks at Mass this year in Rio de Janeiro when Pope Francis pays a visit for World Youth Day.     Protesters are reportedly planning a demonstration during the pope’s upcoming visit to the city for the event — which actually lasts through the week. Demonstrators took to the streets earlier this week burning trash and looting stores, demanding the impeachment of the state governor who has been a target of rallies since June. And authorities are especially worried of a potential repeat of June’s football Confederations Cup, when hundreds of thousands of protesters wore Guy Fawkes masks and demanded better public services.  Citizens also expressed anger over the rising cost to stage the World Cup in 2014. The country reportedly spends billions of dollars on tournaments while its citizens bear the brunt of insufficient hospitals and underfed schools.     The “Anonymous” masks have become a global symbol of protests. Carnival mask makers in the area have reportedly been scrambling to meet the demands for the masks since the anti-government demonstrations began. More than one million people are expected at Tuesday's Mass, which will be policed by 7,000 troops. And, yes, attendees apparently planned to wear masks.     International Business Times reports “ ... enterprising businesses in Rio have already manufactured masks bearing the image of the 266 th pope, in the hopes that these souvenirs will be gobbled up by the two million people expected to come from all over the world to attend the holy event.”    The BBC reports nearly 35,000 security officials are expected to help keep any mask wearers out of the event, but the head of the security force said there will be no attempt to stifle protests so long as they are peaceful.

Rescue Vehicle Killed Asiana Plane Crash Victim

 

The 16-year-old girl run over by a fire vehicle after the Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash was alive before it hit her.   The San Mateo County coroner confirmed Ye Meng Yuan survived the plane crash only to die on the runway afterward. It’s not clear how many emergency response vehicles hit her.  Last week, police and fire officials both confirmed Yuan was hit by at least one of the vehicles. But her cause of death wasn’t confirmed until today. When Yuan’s body was found, it was on the ground and covered in foam that rescuers had sprayed on the burning wreckage … Rescuers discovered her body in the tire track when the truck moved. Yuan’s body was found near the plane’s left wing. But she had been seated on the back of the plane — along with the other two students who died in the crash.   The concern is  how did she get there? Was she ejected from the aircraft, and somehow walked over toward the area where she was run over? Was her body dragged over there? It’s unknown. The investigation of the crash itself is ongoing.

Dubai Paying Residents in Gold to Lose Weight

 In a perhaps desperate effort, the city of Dubai is offering gold as an incentive for people to lose weight. Yes, gold. Here’s how it works.   “A new campaign called ‘You are worth your weight in gold.’ Every person who participates gets one gram of gold for about every 2 pounds he or she loses.”    The program lasts for 30 days and is open to the public.   The top three people to lose the most weight will be awarded with a gold coin worth at least $5,000. People must lose at least 4.4 pounds to get the payout, but there are no restrictions for how much they can get.  New York Daily News  reports one gram of gold is worth about $45. So if you drop 5 pounds, that’s the equivalent of $225 in your pocket.  The program was organized to fight rising obesity rates in the United Arab Emirates. Similar health-focused programs have been successful in the past. ” NBC  reports in worldwide obesity rankings, the UAE, which includes Dubai and six other emirates, is in the top 10 with 30.2 percent of males and 43 percent of women considered obese. Analysts blame common culprits too little exercise and unhealthy diets.   The World Health Organization also predicts by 2030, the rate of diabetes in the UAE could rise to 19.3 percent.  A similar health initiative took place in Dubai in 2011. That program offered people prizes such as cars for losing weight.  The gold-for-lost-pounds challenge ends Aug. 16.

How To : Make offline maps in Google Maps 7

Google is long held the lead when it comes to their mapping technology in their maps app. Whereas version 7 of maps for Android rolls out the Smartphones and tablets. One of google's lesser known but very useful maps features has gone missing. Talking about offline maps the ability to call lot of section of a map and save that data so that you can interact with it even when you don't have an Internet connection. If you're travelling and you want to avoid roaming fees but still have access to local maps. This feature is a real life saver. The good news is that offline maps haven't has disappeared in version 7, They're just been relocated. Instead of finding offline mode in the menu zoom into a section a map that you'd like accessible offline and then tap the search bar and you should see an option above the keyboard for make this map area available off line.

You can do the same thing by typing okay maps into the search box and what automatically catch map on your screen for offline use. Now once have your map saved you can turn off your Wi-Fi connection you can turn off your data connection and you're still gonna zoom in on to that section of the map and even locate yourself on that section as long as the GPS enabled on your device. Now be aware the offline maps aren't available for all regions Paris worked but Tokyo didn't New Zealand no problem but South Korea no luck. Worst case scenario you can try taking a screenshot of the map by pressing the home Button and the power button simultaneously or in the case of nexus 7 here pressing the screen lock button and the volume down button at the same. So that's offline mode and Google Maps for Android version 7.

Health Ministry to review ban on anti-diabetes drug Pioglitazone

The health ministry is struggling to decide whether to keep it's ban on a commonly used diabetes drug with know side effect of causing Bladder cancer.

The drug in question is pioglitazone it's meant to be a 3rd line drug for diabetics and doctors arm into exercise caution while prescribing it. But what we are learning is that before the ban drug was widely prescribed as a first line drug as a combination pill with other diabetes drugs. But it't not about the safety issues concerns are now being raised whether the ban itself is a hasty decision.

The drug was banned in France and Germany after several global studies but it is sold in the US and UK with a health warning to consumers and doctors restricted from using it as a first line drug. The drug was banned last month by health ministry after Chennai based Mohan diabetes research found road to the Drug controller general of India over side effects. Since that decision reports have cited a possible conflict of interest.

The health ministry in response to CNN-IBN's queries has said "The Drug Technical Advisory Board(DTAB) under the chairmanship of Director General of Health Services is meeting on 19th July to consider all the facts and various representations made. Further action will be taken on receipt of the recommendations  of the DTAB"

The 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Review

Samsung galaxy Tab 3: This is the 8-Inch Version of the Samsung galaxy Tab 3. It's thin light and capable of you know anything about Samsung tablets it features won't really surprise you. It's essentially a skinnier version of the Samsung galaxy note 8 without the -- styles of course. Includes a micro SD card slot a 1.3 megapixel front camera and a five megapixel back camera .There is a very useful home button and the less useful menu and back buttons. Few years ago android brought these buttons in to software so I just think it's a little weird and possibly unnecessary put them back on the hardware. However it does free up a bit of screen real stake. There's also an IR blaster on the tablets edge that works that works intend them with Samsung's watch on TV guide slash remote control software.

 Micro USB for charging and transferring dual speakers headphone Jack on the top Round out notable physical features. Multi-window which allows you to run two concurrent apps. Makes its way or no line though it doesn't work seamlessly with your finger as opposed to a stylus. It's still a welcome useful feature for multitasker's. But it's still disappointing it doesn't work with every act. I really like how tab 3 fits in my hand. It's about the same weight as an Ipad mini many and since it is not nearly as wide it's easier to hold in one hand. It's definitely plastic but thanks to its smooth rounded corners. Well pleased features it doesn't feel cheap.

The screen has a 1280/800 resolution which while no longer impress upon larger tablet it's still high enough to offer a high pixel density on an eight inch screen. Leading to an impressively sharp and not to mention bright display. Game performance won't blow your hair back or anything but that's good enough as to not be distracting. That will cost 300 dollars for sixteen gigabytes of storage which is maybe it had much out of it much happier with something in 270 dollars range Still with all the features it offers it's difficult to raise too big a stink about price. Having said that though a lower price would've been much better.

HTC One Mini Review

HTC One mini - A sleek all metal android phone is a little easier to slip into your pockets. So as the name suggests the mini is smaller than the previous HTC one. It's screen measures Knocking 4.3 inches  which is knocking 0.4 inches off the full size model. Not might seem like much but it actually makes it much more comfortable to hold in one hand. In terms of it's design it is not that much different from the full size version. Still has a full metal construction that feels just as luxurious here as it did on the previous model. On the front of the same Two boom sound speakers now these gave a really full sound for a phone on the last one so hopefully they'll give just as good performance here.

The screen resolution has been knocked down to 720p. But the smaller size means it doesn't take as many pixels to crumb in to make it look as sharp. we haven't so far but it already looks quite good.It's powered by a dual Snapdragon Quad Core process. But Qualcomm reckons it can still get very good performance we'll have to wait until a full review to see how it really stacks up. It comes running the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean software now its Big Brother has just seen an update to the latest version so it is good to see that this will be launching with the latest software on board. You'll see the same HTC's sense software with the big minimalist tiles in the menus and the blink feeds scrolling news panel on your home screen.

On the back you'll see the thing four megapixel camera now HTC reckons that the individual pixels are being made physically larger which theoretically gives better image quality of the roll out. I was very impressed with this tech on the normally see if you want. So fingers crossed it will be able to get at least compatible performance. While the HTC one mini doesn't have the same key specs at its Big Brother. It does have a sleek design and a great interface and it's a lot small pocket friendly. There's no word on pricing yet hopefully will be getting a mid-range price to match respects when it launches in the UK in August.

Supreme court quashes NEET Notification

Supreme court on Thursday quashed the NEET Notification. Two judges in the three-Judge bench gave a judgement to cancel the NEET Notification which was given by Medical council of India. The court said MCI has no rights to conduct NEET exam. IT also gave verdict that State government can conduct Medical entrance exams. It is a major relief for State students.

99 Desi Pistols Recovered From a Car in Delhi, Two Arrested!

Delhi police recovered 99 pistols from a car in the area of Sonia Vihar. This .32 bore pistols which were made in Munger area in Bihar have great demand among the perpetrators. The pistols were hided behind the head lights in a cavern. Police arrested suspects Niranjan sharma and Firoz alam under a special drive. It is understood that the seized pistols was consignments between Criminal gangs of Delhi and NCR region.

100 % FDI Approved in Telecommunication Sector

Government of India took a big step of reforms by extending the limits in several areas for Foreign Direct Investment(FDI).

The government decides to increase the limit of FDI percentage from 74 to 100 %.

But there was no decision on the investments in Civil aviation, Airport, Media and pharma.

The decision to expand the foreign investment under the chairmanship of prime minister Manmohan singh was taken during a cabinet meeting.

The ministers who attended the meeting were Finance minister P Chidambaram, Defense minister AK Antony, Commerce and Industry minister Anand Sharma and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal.

Before govt of India taking decision of 100%  investment in Telecommunication sector, the telecom commission approved 100% investment of FDI on July 2nd.



After the meeting Union Commerce & Industry minister Anand Sharma told PTI that the FDI limit in Insurance sector was increased to 49 Percent.

The government has made changes to the route of FDI in many sectors. Also, 49 pct FDI was permitted in the automatic route in few sectors like Petroleum and natural gas, Power exchange, Commodity exchange and Stock exchange.

Anand Sharma said due to the ever increasing demands from the foreign retail Government took decision to liberalize the FDI norms.

No decision was taken under Civil Aviation sector which is 49 pct of FDI.

11 School Students Die in Bihar

A tragic incident took place at chapra district in Bihar. 11 students died after eating mid-day meal in a government school and more than  40 students are being treated in hospital due to severe illness. Chief minister Nitish kumar announced Rs.2 lakh for victim families and ordered for a probe on the incident.
