Latest advertisements in leading news papers say that Mobile number portability (MNP) is going to be launched through out india from January 20th 2011 exept J&k. Mobile customers who aredisgusted with the service provided by their networks are eagerly waiting for this date to switch from their network provider to a new networks with out the need of changing their loved phone number. Mobile number portability (MNP) which permits users to retain their number while switching mobile phone providers, makes at least 687 million Indians stronger consumers. Regardless of the issue whether users are prepaid or postpaid, customers will be able to demand better services, tariff plans and rebates from providers.
With this service the customer can switch to any of these prime service providers in india like Airtel, Idea Cellular, BSNL, Aircel, Loop, Vodafone, Etisalat, Sistema and Videocon. The customer has to pay a maximum of Rs 19, the lowest in the world, to migrate to a new mobile phone company.
These are the steps to port your mobile number to another service provider of your interest.
1) Generate UPC (Unique Porting Code). This can be done by sending an SMS to 1900.
The SMS should be in this format: PORT Eg: PORT <99XXXXXXXX>.
2) Go to the new service provider, he will ask for this UPC code obtained through sms when you fill the SIM form.
Fill the form and obtain your new service providers SIM card. Switching charges: Rs 19.
Finally You will get a message from your new provider on your existing number about when to start using the SIM. That's it.
